I have known Dr. Tania Querido since July 1999. She and I
each have worked on methods for solving a class of difficult mathematical
optimization problems known as Quadratic Assignment. This family of
problems has broad application in business and engineering. The most
common is the assignment of facilities to fixed locations in order to minimize
transportation cost. Today, more important quadratic assignment
applications arise in the design of high performance wireless communication
systems.
Dr. Querido is one of the select researchers listed on the
Quadratic Assignment Problem Library web site. She has published in a
number of important operations research areas, including graph theory,
mathematical programming, combinatorial optimization and computational
biology. Notable among her accomplishments are development of a
combinatorial algorithm for message scheduling on controller area networks and
a genetic algorithm for the location of management centers in an airline
company.
